Shoulder to Shoulder: The Darby Challenge Weekend

What an incredible weekend at the Darby Challenge in Fort Smith. From the 5K to the 10K to the Half Marathon, the energy, effort, and Ranger spirit were unmistakable. Competitors and Rangers alike showed up with purpose, pushing themselves and each other in a way that reflects the very best of the community.

To have it all unfold within the perimeter of General William O. Darby Statue made the experience even more powerful. His legacy was not just remembered, it was felt. It served as a steady reminder that the standard set before us is still alive and still calling us forward.

Collaboration

This weekend also marked a meaningful step forward in our growing collaboration with the City of Fort Smith and the Fort Smith Museum of History. Alongside our partners at the National Ranger Association, we came together with a simple mindset: just let us know how we can help. No agenda. Just a team standing shoulder to shoulder in service of something greater.

Moments like this do not happen by accident. They are built with intention. Every detail, from planning to execution to relationship-building, reflects a shared commitment to doing things the right way.

Remembrance

That spirit of continuity and purpose was felt even more deeply in a powerful moment of tribute. Ranger Legacy Foundation board member Mark Callazos presented a tomahawk to the family of Joshua L. Wheeler, a gesture rooted in the earliest traditions of Rangers under Robert Rogers.

The tomahawk is more than a symbol. It is a lineage. Once carried by Rogers’ Rangers as both tool and weapon, it represents adaptability, self reliance, and readiness. These are the same qualities that define Rangers today. This custom piece, crafted by Tomahawks by Viper, stands as a connection across generations, honoring MSG Wheeler’s courage, sacrifice, and leadership.

As Rogers’ Standing Orders remind us: be ready at a moment’s notice.

We honor his legacy. We stand with his family. We carry forward the standard.

Because in this community, you are never alone.

Rangers Lead the Way.
