MSG Gary Gordon Dedication Ceremony

Submitted by Ranger Larry Moores

The Fort Gordon base renaming and dedication ceremony took place on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. Carmen Drake Owens, widow of MSG Gary Gordon, served as the guest of honor and spoke proudly not only of Gary’s heroism, but also of the entire Task Force Ranger team—brothers in battle who fought courageously against overwhelming odds.

COL (Ret.) Ron Russell, one of the Task Force Ranger Operations Officers, shared remarks highlighting Gary’s valor, which led to his posthumous Medal of Honor, awarded alongside his teammate, SFC Randy Shughart.

CW4 (Ret.) Mike Durant, the Super 64 pilot whose life was saved by the actions of MSG Gordon and SFC Shughart, contributed a deeply moving video message that was shown during the post-ceremony reception.

Fort Gordon leadership emphasized their intent that everyone who enters or trains on the installation understands why it now bears the name of MSG Gary Gordon—an enduring tribute to his courage, sacrifice, and legacy.
