Founders’ Font: Two Rangers Help the Next Generation Connect with America’s Story

Service takes many forms. For Army veterans and fellow Rangers Robert “Rob” A. Heber Jr. and Sean Hagerty, one of those forms is a children’s book that invites young readers to pick up a pen and explore America’s history.

Together, they established Ranger Sacred Honor Publishing and co-authored its first book, Founders’ Font. Their aim is to bring storytelling, cursive handwriting, and historical discovery together in a way that encourages children to learn and think for themselves.

An Adventure with Ben the Pen

The story introduces children to Ben the Pen, a time traveler accidentally created by Benjamin Franklin. Through Ben’s adventures, readers explore American history while encountering the ideas behind the nation’s founding documents. Cursive writing is part of that journey, giving children an opportunity to practice forming letters while becoming familiar with historical handwriting.

The premise offers families a starting point for conversation. What does liberty mean? What responsibilities come with citizenship?

A shared book can make room for those discussions. A parent, grandparent, or educator can pause alongside a child, explore an unfamiliar word, and consider how an idea from the past relates to life today.

The Rangers Behind the Pages

Heber and Hagerty bring different writing experiences to their partnership.

For Heber, clear communication was an essential part of military service. In an interview with Inkandescent Kids, he explained that his Army career taught him the importance of precision in writing. His work for children reflects a desire to continue serving through education and an appreciation for the nation’s history.

Hagerty’s storytelling has a personal family connection. While deployed, he wrote imaginative stories for his daughters to remind them he was thinking about them. He later became an author of adult fiction before collaborating with Heber on his first children’s book.

Their publishing venture extends that shared commitment. Ranger Sacred Honor Publishing was created to produce books that encourage curiosity, character, patriotism, and lifelong learning.

A Legacy Passed Through Learning

At the Ranger Legacy Foundation, we see education as an important way to carry a legacy forward. Preserving history gives future generations something to discover. Sharing it thoughtfully gives them something to consider, question, and apply.

Founders’ Font offers an example of Rangers bringing that purpose into a new setting. Through a children’s story, Heber and Hagerty invite families to spend time learning together and exploring the responsibilities that accompany the freedoms we inherit.
